2007 is a very important year for Michael Sobell House.
If you are registered with us you will receive this
newsletter within days of the 30th Anniversary of the
date of the first patient admission to Michael Sobell
House, 14th February 1977. Since that time we have cared
for thousands of people in the community. We would like
to celebrate this year in style and with the help of
our supporters we would like to think we can secure
care for our patients for another 30 years.
It is difficult to imagine, but for 30 years we have
been open for every minute of every hour of every day
of every week. Yes, we did close the in-patient unit
for a week late in 2006 due to a leaking roof, but we
remained open for Day Care and it was business as usual
for all other services including Outreach which was
introduced in November 2003.
On the back page of our forthcoming newsletter you
will see a large number of exciting events that we are
holding in our 30th Anniversary year. We sincerely hope
that these events will stimulate a great deal of interest
and participation. You may recall that at about this
time last year we sent out a questionnaire enquiring
about your interests. Very kindly, over 1,000 supporters
replied and we hope that our programme of events this
year reflects your feedback.
In 2007 we need to raise just over one million pounds
to maintain patient care at it’s current level.
This is approximately £20,000.00 per week or £2.00
a minute! There are many ways in which you can support
us this year. Not all of them financial (although of
course we would never say no to a cash donation!), so
we greatly value all offers of help including volunteering
and sponsorship. You could for instance help by asking
your company, club or school to adopt us as their charity
of the year.
We believe that the community greatly values our work.
We would like to remember our Anniversary year, 2007,
as the year we broke all fundraising records to secure
the patient care we offer for the future.
