On Sunday 27th January, the Gerrards Cross & Uxbridge District Angling Society, held their annual charity fishing match, with this year all proceeds being donated to the Michael Sobell House Hospice at Mount Vernon Hospital in Northwood.
Six teams, each made up of four fishermen, took part in the competition, held on the River Colne at Uxbridge in bright sunny conditions, and between them raised an amazing £3,269.00 for the hospice. After the match, the participants retired to the Dolphin public house in Uxbridge, to enjoy a generous spread of food provided by the landlord and staff. Steve Grudgings, Manager of Fundraising at the hospice, joined the celebrations in response to an invitation from Don Wilkinson the Society secretary and one of the match organizers, to accept the donation and to talk about the hospice and its work. Finally, Keith Arthur, radio and TV presenter of ‘Talksports Fisherman’s News’ and ‘Sky Sports Tight Lines’, presented the cheque to Steve to round off this very enjoyable event.
The Gerrards Cross & Uxbridge District Angling Society & The Friends of Michael Sobell House, would like to thank all those who helped to make the day so special. For example, Mr Carl Stacey who removed four large trees from the river to allow the Match to go ahead and donated his fee to the hospice. Also to Fox International, Gardner Tackle and Korum Tactical Angling Products, for their generosity in providing match prizes and support.
