The
official opening of the new Michael Sobell Centre took
place on Wednesday 21st September 2005 in the presence
of supporters and friends of Michael Sobell House. We
were delighted to welcome Lady Weinstock and Mrs Hilda
Rubin, daughters of the late Sir Michael Sobell and
patrons of Michael Sobell House to perform the opening
ceremony for the new building.
Medical Director, Dr. Ivan Trotman, explained his wish,
for operational purposes, to house the whole of the
clinical team in one building and the subsequent need
for the Friends' to vacate their current premises.
The new Michael Sobell Centre includes a large multifunctional
hall, which will enable the education team to offer
extensive training courses to healthcare professional
to extend their knowledge of specialist palliative care
into the community. It will also provide a new home
for the Friends of Michael Sobell House and will be
used most evenings by the Sobell Bridge Club, who provide
revenue support for direct patient care.
It now remains for the existing fundraising offices
to be refurbished to provide the much-needed additional
space for the clinical team.
