Sobell Centre in Action
The
Fundraising and Education teams are now happily located
in the MSC. The Sobell Bridge Club is enjoying using
the multifunction room for the majority of their events.
So 2006 has started with a real bang.
January 2005 saw the ground-works commence and slowly
over the year the building emerged in all its glory.
This activity culminated in the official opening by
our patrons Lady Weinstock and Mrs Hilda Rubin in September.
Subsequently the building was fitted out with furniture,
computer equipment, etc so that the building could be
occupied early in 2006.
The Trustees would like to thank the team who managed
this very successful project. Rod Lacey led the project
for the trustees calling on professional help as required.
He gave an enormous amount of his time and saw to the
smallest detail required by the construction team. We
are in his debt for the enormous amount of quality work
that he gave so freely. His attention to detail is reflected
in the excellent result.
Derek Lofty (Chartered Surveyor) and Ian Thomson (Quantity
Surveyor) provided invaluable professional support throughout
the project and the trustees have expressed their gratitude
for the unstinting support that they gave to the charity.
Philiam Construction and John Bissel (architect with
the RM Partnership) provided all the design and construction
support; the project was on budget and completed on
time. We recommend them for their professional attitude
and value for money approach to the whole project.
The final phase of the project is to refurbish the
offices in the Michael Sobell Resource Block that were
vacated by the teams mentioned above. This is now in
progress and the new space should be available for the
clinical/medical teams by March. They are looking forward
to occupying more spacious accommodation.
The Trustees would like to stress that the capital
sum for the new building and the refurbishment was raised
by specific activities that did not restrict funding
for the normal requirements of MSH. Our particular thanks
go to the Sobell Foundation and the Sobell Bridge Club
for their significant donations. Our gratitude also
goes to the many donors who have helped make this project
possible.
