If you were up and about in the glorious sunshine on Sunday morning you may have noticed a lot of cyclists. This is because the annual ‘On Yer Bike For Care’ sponsored bike ride took place in aid of Michael Sobell House Hospice and Palliative Care Centre at Mount Vernon Hospital.
200 riders joined the cycling fun in the sun, choosing either the 12 or 23 mile route in support of the charity. Free bike checks and expert advice was on hand, courtesy of Paul Miller from the ‘Specialized Concept Store’ in Ruislip. A dedicated group of volunteers manned the registration desks from early in the morning; the bike ride began at 8am with the first rider, Nick Hawkins returned from his 12 mile ride before 9am!
Ophelia Chambers-Henry, commented on the 2009 bike ride, “On Yer Bike For Care 2009 has been a great success. The weather was perfect, we had more riders than ever before and the whole day went smoothly with lots of smiling faces. Our bike ride has become one of the most popular fundraising events we host and we are very grateful to the Elthorne & Hillingdon Rotary Club, Paul Miller of Ruislip Specialized Concept Store and our wonderful volunteers without whom it wouldn’t be possible.”
The sponsorship for the ride is still being collected but Michael Sobell House hope to bet last year’s total of £7,000.00.
