There was standing room only at “Jazz Upstairs”
the renowned jazz venue at Ruislip Golf Club on Sunday
April 9th when a full house were treated to a wide ranging
repertoire of numbers played by the Perry Parsons Big
Band in a Charity concert raising funds for Michael
Sobell House.
The
band originally got together as members of the Vyners
Swing Band based at Vyners School, Ickenham at which
band Musical Director Perry Parsons himself held various
posts for 29 years. The band launched themselves under
their current name in 2002 and play a catalogue of popular
hits from early swing to easy listening and modern big
band, spanning the 1920’s to the modern day.
Perry Parsons is well known in the local community
having been honoured as the Hero of Hillingdon winner
this year for his work with both Vyners Swing Band and
Perry Parsons Big Band. Both bands are non-profit making
and offer their services to charity events with money
made being donated to charity. Since 1988 the bands
have raised a fantastic £83,000. Last Friday May
5th Pam Montgomery, Trustee, Friends of Michael Sobell
House was delighted to accept a donation of £720.
Many thanks go to Perry Parsons and all members of the
band and their supporters, and Eileen Runkel, Secretary
to the band.
