Following a visit this week from the Ruislip Belles and Beaux hand-bell group to the MSH Day unit we were delighted to receive a donation from the group of £1,440. This is a fantastic sum and we pay tribute to the hand-bell ringers who work so hard to fundraise for the hospice. BMW of the group writes:-
“It was about six years ago that, following a visit from a hand-bell group to entertain us, several members of the Ruislip Trefoil Guild wanted to “have a go”, so we borrowed a set of bells belonging to St Martins Church and learnt by trail and error! The church bells were in a very poor condition, so we managed to raise the money to buy a second-hand set costing £1,300 and started to give recitals and collect donations, using half the money to add extra bells to the set to increase the range, to buy equipment and to have the bells overhauled, and giving half to our chosen charity.
We are now able to give everything we collect to charity.
We chose Michael Sobell House as our charity and it means more to us as one of the founder members died there a few yeas ago. Four of the original members are still playing. We have gathered others over the years and now number twelve and meet each Monday to practice.
We play for rest homes, nursing homes, clubs and societies, special occasions and at Christmas are very busy as everyone wants us to play carols! Our best results are from collections at the Pavilions Shopping Centre in Uxbridge where we go some Saturdays, but all donations are welcome. We all really enjoy playing together, and hope to go on for many years to come.”
